77th Gran Premio Liberazione: women's upgrade, addition of amateurs, Bike 4 Fun "on circuit"

Less than a month to the 77th Gran Premio della Liberazione, a three-day event at Caracalla even richer: as always, every category will race, but with the addition of

“We support the Gran Premio della Liberazione both for its great sporting tradition and because it is one of the most coveted races for young talents in international cycling. It’s no coincidence that over the years champions such as Bugno, Fondriest, Cipollini, and many others have won or participated in the competition. We want to make Rome a reference point for Italian cycling. The Liberazione and the arrival in Rome of the Giro d’Italia are events that give our city new centrality, generating impressive numbers in terms of attendance and bringing people closer to a virtuous sporting activity that has a great tradition in Italy.”

With these words, Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion of Rome, introduced in recent months the renewed support of the Capital for the GP Liberazione, which since 1946 has been the Spring World Championship for amateurs and young riders and since 2021, the year it came under the aegis of Terenzi Sport Eventi, has become a three-day cycling event literally for everyone around the Baths of Caracalla.

The 77th edition will take place on April 25, 26, and 27. Thursday the 25th,Liberation Day, the "main races" of the event: in the morning the Coati Liberazione Women’s Race, which this year benefits from an upgrade in category from 1.2 to 1.1, and in the afternoon the highlight event, the Men’s Under 23 race. In the areas in front of the Caracalla zone, meanwhile, the Giovanissimi will also be active: during the women’s race, a mountain bike short track; during the U23, a skills course on asphalt.

Between the morning and afternoon sessions, between noon and one o’clock, there will also be an initiative that has become a flagship of Claudio Terenzi’s organization: the Bike 4 Fun, a non-competitive ecological ride that this year will allow participants to cycle along the same route as the competitors, but from the perspective of the simple enthusiast who can enjoy the spectacle of the Aurelian Walls, Pyramid of Cestius, Circus Maximus, and of course the Baths of Caracalla.

The route may change but not the solidarity at the heart of Bike 4 Fun, which as always will support ANED Sport - National Association of Dialysis and Transplant Patients and AIDO – Italian Association of Organ Donors, actively involving Roman schools to bring over 500 young people to ride together with the girls and boys who are on dialysis or have had transplants and with their families, raising awareness about the importance of organ donation. We look forward to seeing many of you!

Friday the 26th the action will take place in the second part of the day, on almost the same circuit (shortened from 6 to 5 kilometers) with two new features. From 3 pm, the Urbis et Orbis Cup, an Amateur race for which you can find useful information on the homepage of this site. Then, in the evocative Roman evening, there will also be a foot race in collaboration with Appia Run.

Saturday the 27th will finally see a return to "federal" competitions with the youth categories. The morning with the Cavaliere Liberazione Juniors, lunch with the DPiù Liberazione Allievi, afternoon with the Co.Re.Ma.3 Liberazione Esordienti also on a reduced circuit.

The 77th Gran Premio Liberazione enjoys the patronage of: Regione Lazio, Roma Capitale, Sport e Salute, UCI, FCI, Coni Lazio.
Throughout the three days of events, the race village will be open free of charge along the finishing straight, near the athletics facility named after Nando Martellini. You can watch the races there and enjoy an unbeatable atmosphere between one stand and another, with plenty of side activities that will enrich an occasion already special in itself. Among them, the fitness fair with exhibitions of various disciplines for a total celebration of sport!
