In the long Roman afternoon, under a fresh wind whipping the bright atmosphere of the Eternal City, 177 amateur cyclists of all Master categories competed in the "Urbis et Orbis Cup" on a 5-kilometer circuit around the Baths of Caracalla for 12 laps. At the end of these 60 kmbranded Gran Premio Liberazione, also valid as the Lazio regional championship, the great duel emerged between Rossano Mauti and Marco Bernardinetti, with the latter triumphing at the final finish line after lapping numerous opponents.
Bernardinetti (Nuova Ciclisti Forano) is therefore the overall, M1, and regional winner, while Mauti wins the Elite category and the respective regional title ahead of Matteo Rotondi (GS Murolo), who completes the overall podium.
As for the winners of the other individual categories of the first group, which started at 3:00 pm: M2 Giovanni Rinicella (Nardecchia Montini), who is also regional champion; M3 Gaetano Del Prete (Diemme Sport) with namesake Massimiliano Del Prete (Euronics) as regional champion; M4 Leonardo Giordani (Agliana) with Marco Pergolesi (Ciampino Bike) as regional champion.
The second group, made up of riders aged fifty and over, started five minutes later and saw on the podium Giuseppe Di Prima (Robur Barcellona), Massimo Costa (Euronics), and Renato D'Ambrosio (Faga Zama). In this way, Di Prima is the winner among the M5s, with Luisiano Cannizzaro of Euronics as regional champion, while Costa wins the M6 title with the attached regional. Last mention for the M7s, with Salvatore Ambra (B. Bike) as winner and Mario Quattrini (Fiormonti) as regional champion. No M8 managed to finish the race.
Subsequently, the second day of the "three days of Caracalla" has just ended with the first edition of the [see image above] organized in collaboration between Terenzi Sport Eventi and Appia Run: 200 participants, with the winners in the 10 km competitive race being (team GSBR) among the men and (Podistica Solidarietà) among the women. No ranking, but pure fun, for the non-competitive 5-kilometer race. Returning to the cycling event, the complete results of the Liberazione Amatori while the start lists for tomorrow's youth races can be found.
